ROOT CANAL TREATMENT : Dentists do root canal treatment, also called endodontic therapy.
It treats infections or damage in the tooth's pulp. The pulp is the tooth's innermost part. It has nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. This involves removing infected or damaged tissue. The tissue is in the tooth's pulp chamber and root canals. Then, you clean and disinfect these areas. Finally, you fill and seal them to stop further infection.
The main goal of root canal treatment is to save a tooth. Otherwise, severe decay, infection, or trauma would need the removal of the tooth. People often need a root canal for deep cavities or cracked teeth. It can also happen after repeated dental work on the same tooth or tooth trauma.

During the procedure, the dentist or endodontist numbs the tooth and the area around it. They do this with local anesthesia. This ensures the patient's comfort. They then create an opening in the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canals. They use special instruments. They remove the infected or damaged tissue, clean the canals well, and shape them to hold the filling.
Once the dentists clean and shape the canals, they fill them with gutta-percha, a biocompatible material. It seals the root canal system to stop bacteria from getting back in. In some cases, the dentist may place a temporary filling. It will remain in place until a permanent restoration, such as a crown, can be installed. The restoration will restore the tooth's strength and function.
After a root canal, patients may feel mild discomfort or sensitivity. They can usually manage it with over-the-counter pain medication. It's essential to follow any post-operative instructions provided by the dentist and attend follow-up appointments for evaluation and restoration of the tooth.
Overall, root canal treatment is a highly effective procedure for saving a tooth that would otherwise be lost. It relieves pain, removes infection, and allows patients to retain their natural teeth and oral function. You need regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene. They are essential for keeping root canal-treated teeth healthy and preventing future dental problems.
